Sprint/Clearwire Closing in on WiMax Deal

Looks as if the Sprint/Clearwire deal is getting closer. Intel has pumped $2 billion into the project so this may actually come to fruition. It was estimated that the WiMax project would cost $5 billion had Sprint taken it all on themselves. Now we get Sprint and Clearwire working together, combining Sprint’s licenses in the 2.5 GHz spectrum with Clearwire’s spectrum. Intel benefits because there will soon be the WiMax infrastructure that will have people wanting to buy Intel’s goods to be used in the new WiMax markets. They really need to get the ball rolling though. The market won’t wait and if AT&T or Verizon get to market first with the LTE rollout it may provide to be another money suck for Sprint.
